The function of a keyboard base

The keyboard base is a crucial component in a mechanical keyboard and the different parts work together to convert keystrokes into electrical signals that are then sent to the keyboard. You can assemble your own keyboard with the keyboard base and purchase keycap sets and keyboard switches available in our store.

Types of keyboard bases

The two main types of keyboard bases are PCB mounted keyboard and plate mounted keyboard. In a PCB mounted keyboard, the key switches are mounted in the printed circuit board itself. This is generally used for building small keyboards but the setup is not as sturdy as the plate-mounted model.

The plate-mounted keyboard has the switches installed on a plate instead of the PCB which is then soldered to it. It is typically used for assembling large/standard sized keyboards. Plate-mounted keyboards are sturdy and durable. We stock a range of plate-mounted keyboard bases to use for assembling a keyboard.

Components of a keyboard base pack

When you purchase a keyboard base pack, it comes with the following components: a barebone (without the switches or keycaps, which need to be purchased separately), top case made of aluminium or plastic, PCB, sound damper, stabilisers, switch puller and USB cable.

Get a keyboard base of your choice from our store and get them shipped fast to your doorstep anywhere in Australia, including all major cities like Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane.
